My art practice is heavily influenced by the young people I get to know through my community-based work and by their very different experience of childhood from my own. In this piece, a young woman is straddling the line between womanhood and girlhood, glimpsing elements from each but not able to ground herself in either place. She is one woman, but made up of many.
Prompted to think of women who inspire us, I thought of this young woman and others who work so hard to balance the responsibilities they have to their families with their own interests and desires.
