Little Lady in the Belly

Ceramic, slip, custom decals

2012

The displayed woodfired stoneware tiles with custom laser decals reflect the transcendence I witnessed in my sister months before and during her pregnancy. Rachel actively chose to stop taking historically fetal-damaging anti-anxiety medication that she had so deeply depended on for more than half of her life, months before she planned to become pregnant.

Motivated, powered and strengthened by the love for, protection and health of her unborn child (named Silvana Grace, born on February 18th, 2012 at 1:38am) my sister chose to sacrifice what she had known to always work for her anxiety, exploring methods not harmful to in utero development.

I can only imagine what both of these females will do with their combined strength and love now that they are in the world together.
